With Labor Day behind us it might feel like the fun is all over for the year, but there’s still plenty to do in Central Virginia. Check out these September Virginia festivals if you’re looking for a good time for the whole family, or even just you and some friends.

Armenian Food Festival

Richmond’s 57th annual Armenian Food Festival is an event you won’t want to miss if you enjoy exploring different cultures right in your own backyard. Come sample dishes such as cheese boreg, stuffed grape leaves, and pork tenderloin kebobs. And don’t forget to try a glass of shushi pomegranate wine. Also enjoy live music and traditional dancing.

Heritage Harvest Festival

If history and sustainable gardening are your thing, the Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello is just the outing for you. This family-oriented festival celebrates the gardening legacy of Thomas Jefferson and features workshops, produce sampling, children’s educational programming, and cooking demonstrations to name just a few highlights. The festival takes place Saturday, September 12 with workshops and a keynote speech on Friday.

Fluvanna County Wine Festival

If the words tannins, bouquet, and “mouth feel” are music to your ears, try the Fluvanna County Wine Festival. This festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary, and what better time to check it out. The festival will feature tastings from nine different regional wineries including Delfosse Vineyards and Byrd Cellars. There will also be specialty food vendors, live music, and children’s programming.

Virginia Clay Festival

Are you the crafty type? Or do you just appreciate people who are? Make your way to the first annual Virginia Clay Festival for all the ceramics and pottery you can stand. The festival will feature artists selling their wares, demonstrations throughout the day, and live old time and traditional Irish music. The little ones can get messy in the children’s clay area. This is an event not to be missed for the art and sculpture enthusiast.
