The professionals at Geoff McDonald & Associates along with other members of Dominion Power and of the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg spent the day helping others in need.
On Friday, September 5, attorneys Geoff McDonald, Brody Reid, and Jamie Karek along with Jennifer Velazquez, executive administrative assistant, partnered with the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg during the United Way of America’s Day of Action.
The members of the law firm volunteered at a local shelter to help improve the living environment for underprivileged children. They helped build toys—teeter-totters, tri-cycles, basketball hoops, and a playhouse—for the children's playground. The also spent time organizing the children’s library, picking up garbage, and cleaning up the playground. Other organizations, such as Dominion Power, also lent a helping hand during the project.
“United Way did an excellent job organizing such a successful event,” Geoff McDonald said. “This was a great opportunity for the law firm to do something for our community, and we plan on continuing our service in the future. We picked a tough project, and we got our hands dirty, but it was all for the kids.”
The Day of Action invited the entire Richmond community to play an active part in creating positive change. More than 200 corporate and community volunteers in the area gathered for a rally and kickoff event at 8 a.m. at the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg, and then dispersed into groups to participate in a variety of volunteer projects. Their efforts benefited ElderHomes in Richmond and Petersburg, A Grace Place, Friend’s Association, Circle Center Adult Day Center, the Boys & Girls Club at the West End Unit, the YWCA, and the American Red Cross at the Southside Area Chapter.
