Geoff McDonald founded Geoff McDonald & Associates in 1992 after seeing a need in Virginia to help injured people receive honest treatment from insurance companies, both in workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. Having grown up on military bases around the world, Geoff understands what it is to be the outsider looking for a fair chance—he dedicates his practice to making sure his clients are given respect from insurance companies and get the compensation they deserve.

Q: Do I need a lawyer?

A: Not every workers’ compensation or car accident case requires a lawyer, but if you have a serious or permanent injury, you should always have a lawyer. We define “permanent injury” as one that may prevent you from either returning to the work you were doing prior to your accident or as one that affects your quality of life. We will tell you whether or not we think your claim has merit. We only take cases where we think we can make a difference and help someone.

Geoff began his legal career after graduating from T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. Prior to this, he was a scholarship football player at both the University of Hawaii and then the University of Virginia, where he earned his undergraduate degree. His athletic background has shown him what it’s like to be outnumbered, fight against the odds, and win. Geoff was a member of the 1984 Peach Bowl Championship football team—which was also Virginia's first ever Bowl appearance. Although Geoff's playing days are long over he continues to channel his passion for the game into coaching his son's youth football team, working with the offensive and defensive lines.

In addition to handling personal injury and workers’ compensation cases, Geoff has lectured on these areas of law and has been published in Trial magazine and other publications. He is an active member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Workplace Injury Litigation Group.
