Geoff McDonald founded Geoff McDonald & Associates in 1992 after seeing a need in Virginia to help injured people receive honest treatment from insurance companies, both in workers' compensation and personal injury cases. Geoff dedicates his legal practice to making sure his clients are given respect from insurance companies and get the compensation they deserve.
In his years of legal experience, Geoff has successfully tried cases resulting in more than 200 opinions, including 46 Court of Appeals or Workers’ Compensation Commission opinions. Several of these cases have helped shape Virginia case law for injury victims on a variety of issues, including work place suicides, the Doctrine of Imposition, permanent impairment for third degree burns, patient consent for medical procedures, among others.
Geoff has represented a number of labor unions in legal disputes, many arising from strikes, such as:
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers vs. Verizon
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 50 vs. Dominion Virginia Power
- International Union of Operating Engineers vs. Newport News Ship Yard
- Currently representing several Local Teamsters Unions throughout Virginia in labor disputes and workers' compensation matters
- Legal counsel and pro bono for the Virginia State Builders Trade

Geoff began his legal career after graduating from T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. Prior to this, he was a scholarship football player at both the University of Hawaii and then the University of Virginia, where he earned his undergraduate degree and was a member of the Peach Bowl Championship Cavalier team in 1984, which was Virginia's first-ever bowl appearance. Geoff was a member of both the all-WAC (Western Athletic Conference) and the all-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) academic teams. He has been a football coach for the past 10 years.
