Who is Most at Risk for Contracting Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?
People who work or have worked in certain professions are much more likely to have been exposed to Roundup on a regular basis, potentially increasing their risk for developing Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Some of these professions include:
- Groundskeeping, such as at a school or golf course
- Professional gardeners
- Workers who apply herbicides or pesticides
Those who work in these professions may have handled containers of Roundup or worked around those who did. Workers could breathe it in through the nose or mouth or absorb it on their skin. Roundup may have even tainted food these workers ate, causing them to be exposed.
If you worked in a high-risk industry or know you were exposed to Roundup, watch for some of the common symptoms of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma listed below. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should go see a doctor – the earlier this condition is diagnosed, the better your prognosis may be.
- Shortness of breath
- Lost appetite
- Unexplained or unusual fatigue
- Weight loss
- Strange eating patterns
- Enlarged lymph nodes
If our Richmond Roundup lawsuit lawyers validate your case in a free consultation, we are prepared to manage every step of the legal process, including negotiating for compensation and taking your case to trial, if necessary.

Roundup Has Been Linked to Cancer
Despite scientific evidence of a link between glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the product has not been recalled from the market. This link has been researched by organizations like the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and American Cancer Society.
ACS published a study back in 1999 in which researchers discovered an increased risk of people developing Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after exposure to Roundup. The study also revealed an increased risk for Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma among those exposed to herbicides.
Another study from the International Journal of Cancer found glyphosate significantly increases the risk of developing lymphoma. This study was published in 2008.
Research has also shown farm work increases the risk for developing lymphoma. In 2014, research on 3,400 U.S. farmworkers found glyphosate use was linked to higher rates of developing this type of cancer.
IARC has also studied this subject, reviewing approximately 1,000 studies, and found strong evidence of glyphosate being a substance that contributes to the development of cancer. The organization noted research has shown glyphosate in the blood and urine of farmers who were exposed to this substance. These farmers also had an increased risk of developing cancer. In March 2015, the IARC chose to classify glyphosate as possibly carcinogenic to humans.
The licensed Richmond Roundup lawsuit lawyers at Geoff McDonald and Associates are ready to review the research and compile a strong case, if we validate your claim in a free consultation.

Lawsuits That Have Already Been Filed Against Monsanto
Monsanto is facing tens of thousands of claims that Roundup caused people to develop cancer. The large number of claims may be one of the reasons Monsanto agreed to a $10.9 billion settlement of tens of thousands of claims in June 2020. The settlement would apply to about 95,000 cases, according to a press release about the agreement.
The first case that went to trial resulted in a jury verdict of $289 million for a former groundskeeper who contracted Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. According to the jury in that case, Monsanto either knew or should have known Roundup was dangerous. The jury’s award included $250 million in punitive damages and $37 million in noneconomic damages.
In March 2019, a jury awarded $80 million in damages to a victim diagnosed with cancer in 2014. The award included $5 million in compensatory damages and $75 million in punitive damages. However, in July of 2019, a judge reduced this award to $50 million.
In June 2020, Monsanto’s parent company Bayer agreed to settle tens of thousands of lawsuits for up to $10.9 billion.
