Geoff McDonald & Associates is looking for an experienced claimants-side Workers’ Compensation Attorney (3-5 years) to help Virginia workers who are injured on the job recover compensation for their injuries, including medical bills and lost wages. Typical job functions of our attorneys include:

  • Reviewing medical evidence and medical records; talking to medical providers
  • Taking depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts and other parties
  • Conducting discovery
  • Performing legal research
  • Remaining current with developments in the law
  • Drafting pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions and other legal documents
  • Litigating cases before a workers’ compensation judge or referee
  • Answering client questions and guiding them the process
  • Completing paperwork relating to the claim
  • Representing the claimant at all proceedings
  • Negotiating settlements on behalf of the claimant

Skills and Knowledge

In addition to essential legal skills, a successful candidate will have:

  • Litigation experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Virginia WC laws and procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills (Lexus)
  • Ability to handle large caseloads and juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Computer proficiency
  • Understanding of medical, scientific, construction, products, engineering and similar issues inherent in workers compensation cases
  • Compassion and understanding of injured worker’s plight
