Geoff McDonald & Associates Expands Practice to Include Drone Injury

The rapid expansion, growing versatility, and ensuing federal regulation of drones has prompted one Richmond law firm to examine the potential safety risks inherent with drone technology.  In expanding the firm’s personal injury practice, Geoff McDonald & Associates is introducing a new practice dedicated to drone injury liability.

By 2020 the Federal Aviation Administration estimates that more than 30,000 drones will populate our skies.  According to a 2013 study by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the future development and use of drones could lead to an $82 billion industry by 2025.

While drones will continue to be used by the U.S. government for military surveillance, more and more innovative uses of commercial drones are expanding to include everyday activities such as farming land, fighting crime, extinguishing fires, delivering packages, selling real estate, covering the news, making movies and assisting in disaster relief.

Firm principal, Geoff McDonald, and his legal team are counseling clients who have experienced injuries related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) more commonly known as drones.

“Drones are powerful compact machines which have potential for inflicting serious physical injury
resulting from fallen debris, explosions or vehicle collision. There are documented cases of individuals suffering severe injuries to the head, hands, and eyes,” said McDonald.

“As use of UAVs proliferates, drone collisions due to user inexperience or mechanical defects can potentially cause severe injuries to citizens,” explained McDonald.  “One of our attorneys has successfully completed a certification program offered by the Unmanned Vehicle University. This technical training will equip him to leverage his legal skills with the latest on drone science and operations in counseling drone injury clients.”

Geoff McDonald & Associates successfully serves clients in personal injury cases involving automobile, motorcycle, and truck accidents, brain injury, children and adolescent injury, defective products, drone liability, workers’ compensation, social security, veteran’s disability, and wrongful death.
Serving clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, Geoff McDonald & Associates offers clients an initial complimentary consultation to encourage potential clients in making informed decisions about their cases.
