This summer, Geoff McDonald & Associates asked the community to nominate Virginia teachers who go above and beyond for their students, even with limited resources and support. Hundreds of nominations came in.

The top nominee was Ms. Alexis Evans, a fifth-grade teacher at George W. Carver Elementary School in Richmond’s Carver neighborhood. Ms. Evans is in her 11th year in education, and she is Geoff McDonald & Associates’ Teacher of the Year for 2026.

The 2026 supply drive at Carver Elementary

Ms. Evans received our annual school supply drive. Our team delivered hundreds of dollars’ worth of school supplies to her classroom, and she also received a $300 gift card to help support her classroom throughout the school year.

Adopting Ms. Evans’ classroom

When we delivered the supplies, our team was touched by Ms. Evans’ dedication to her students, and we decided our support shouldn’t stop at the start of the school year. We have “adopted” her classroom.

Throughout the school year, we plan to support her students with an angel tree at Christmas, pizza parties, football, and reading.

A message from our Teacher of the Year

Ms. Evans shared this message:

Hello! My name is Alexis Evans, and I am honored to serve as the 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year at George Washington Carver Elementary School. This year marks my 11th year in education, and I continue to love helping students discover their potential.

My goal as an educator is to create a classroom where every child feels seen, valued, and capable of success. I strive to inspire a love for learning, build confidence, and equip my students with the academic and life skills they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. I believe that every student can succeed when they are supported, encouraged, and challenged to be their best.

As I prepare for another exciting school year, I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of our community. Thank you for taking the time to review my classroom supply list. Your kindness and support will directly impact my students by helping create a positive, engaging, and well-equipped learning environment.

It is truly an honor, and I sincerely appreciate your generosity and support!

Ms. Alexis Evans, fifth grade teacher, George W. Carver Elementary School
